    Chicago Corvette / Gray Gracy

I just thought I would take a minute to give all of you a heads up of a recent pruchase I made from Chic. Corvette. No doubt, they have been the focus of some negative attention (deserved).

I purchased a rear end housing from them and everything went just as it should of.

    Best Regards,

    Tim

They had the perfectly dated housing / gear ratio I needed. Beggars can't be choosers.

About ten years ago, I purchased a 4296 for my 69 L88 from them. It arrived on time and was probably the most dependable restored carb I've ever owned.

I ain't sayin' they are not without deserved crticism but, they did fine by me on that purchase.

Tim, I also bought a dated diff from them about 3 years ago. Seems a little tight but no problems as of yet. Maybe it needs to be broken in more. How is your new diff?

            Larry,

I just bought the case. I want to build the diff myself. How tight is tight?
Ideally, use an IR temp gun on the diff after some driving (30 min). Compare it to another car to see. I know when the are fresh, they can be pretty warm but the should not last too long.

Tim, I got a completely rebuilt diff from CC. The tires get pretty warm and the tires squeal a little sometimes when making a turn. I do get more vibration in the shifter going from the 3.08's to the 4.11's. I do not drive the car much. How long does it take to "break in". Larry

After rebuilding the posi I remember it would "clunk" while turning left. I changed the fluid and added 2 bottles of addtive and the clunking stopped. This was about 8 years ago.

My experience has been after a couple of hours of light driving. After reassembly, I run it on jack stands for 15 minutes, then cool for a couple of hours. I then drive it for about a half hour next, and let cool overnight. I then change the fluid, and drive it.

Is it clunking and squealing you are worried about? If so, sound like time for a fluid change plus the posi additive. I am a little puzzled about your tires being warm. Are you sure that is not just from driving? How do the rears compare to the fronts?

                    Tim,
Two bottles of the posi fluid where added when the diff was installed. It has about 200 miles since installation. I did not change the fluid since the shop did not mention it. Is the occasional tire squealing when turning part of the tightness/break in period? Larry

Folks get an IR Temp gun and become familiar with it.Every gear head should have one in his tool box and their so affordable. If I questioned the operating temp of my tires, rear end, rotor ,etc.I would drive one of my other cars that's operating properly and check it as a base line.you could then take a ride in a friends Corvette and offer to take the temp of his rear end, or tires with your new gun for compairison. A couple of years ago I thought the rotors on my wifes CTS were running hot so I measured them with my gun when she came home from work. Much to my surprise they were within the range GM recommended, but I would have never known that without a gun.

Yes. that will get better with some use.

I bought an intake manifold from them last week, also because it was perfectly dated. They are removing the tray and blasting it before shipping.

I'll let everyone know how it goes.

I hope your purchase goes smoothly.

I seen this thread in early Jan after I purchased a generator on December 26 from them. It was to be shipped in 5 days, however, never showed up showed up until Feb 2 after phone calls, and many many emails, that rarely got answered, and when they did, I got different stories. Finally filed a Paypal dispute and it showed up 5 days later

The story ended good since the generator was exactly what he stated and was in perfect shape. Just allot of aggravation along the way.

I keep reading comments about CC/Gray Gracy implying problems.
For those of us in the dark, what exactly are the problems with this vendor?

I bought a rebuilt 63 fuel pump from them on Ebay (graygracy, no indication of chicago corvette). I had no issues with the purchase or shipping and the transaction was excellent. I haven't installed the pump yet so I can't speak for the mechanical aspect, but the part was identical to that pictured.
