You may be kidding , but it is the truth. Having owed my car for 40 years , It was my every day car for 12 years, rain , snow, ice. These cars are great in the snow with the proper tires.

Also, why worry about rust, now, you will be dead by the time it matters. Drive you car when ever it s possible. They are only cars, not shrines. Not that you should drive in bad conditions, but when ever possible take that baby out drive it. Your car will like you for it.

Good to hear your still out there driving the vette
I drove mind in the salt and snow for a lot of years.
I have owned it (1964) since 1970 and drove it to work 60
miles a day for many years and yes it did rust out the side
rails. That is the reason for a frame off. 3 years now and hope
to get it finished this spring or summer. Sure do miss driving it.
Yes we have a lot of snow also.

      KEEP DRIVING THAT VETTE

We just had 15" last week in Iowa. I drove my '60 all winter (for work) many years ago. Don H.

The morning news on Tuesday when we had the ice here in Fort Worth showed a TXDOT camera where you could just make out the tail end of a c5 or c6 stuck on an overpass with no traction and the reporter said it had been there for over an hour. I couldn't believe anyone would take a Corvette out in a winter storm. Everyone I know who owns a c5 or c6 today, even tho they might drive them daily, is well off enough that they bought it as a 2nd car. Having been born after many of you bought your first Corvette, I just wonder if the economy and attitudes were different when the c1s through 3s were new or if its just my flawed perception that new Corvettes are more typically bought as 2nd cars now than in the past.

Unless you live in the 25% of the country that doesn't get snow all of todays rear drive performance cars are a second car. The tires are build for 1G turns on an August afternoon not commuting in January. Not only are most of these cars over priced, but they're useless in the winter.
Many that participate in this discussion board remember driving not only Corvettes ,but GTOs,Chevy IIs,Camaros, etc, etc year round with little real problem. How many of you drive an all wheel drive sport utility or 4 wheel drive truck just to be able to go to work now?

Gorgeous photos, Jack. Thanks for posting.

I just cleared 14 inches of snow off the driveway, ...here in Oklahoma.

                          Phil -

Nothing is more useless in snow than those big, wide, low-profile tires. When I was the Viper plant manager, I had two assigned company cars - a Viper for good weather, and a Grand Cherokee for the other six months of weather around here. 13"-wide rear tires equal zero traction in snow.

That's a great observation. Come to think of it, when I see c1s, 2s and early 3s with reproduction tires, it has always struck me how narrow the treads were compared to the amount of horsepower. I suppose they weren't much different than passenger car tires. Was it common back in the day for people to throw a set snow tires or chains on a Corvette and just keep driving through the winter?

My son drives a BMW M-5 (in the summer),Car is an incredibly fast sedan in August worthless in Cincinnati winters. These modern tires that look like O rings should come with warning labels warning the customer that their dangerous in winter and probably won,t last till the lease is up. I'm really surprised that some enterprising law team haven't sued one of the manufactures over these issues.
Young drivers and women are taken advantage of on this issue, few can afford a summer car and a winter car too. Just the rambling thoughts of an old man snowbound with cabin fever.

Concerning the picture of the 56-57 in the mud which I posted on this thread.
Can anyone identify anything about this picture?
It appears to be taken on a logging road somplace.
It seems like the Corvette was traveling with someone who took the picture.
Can anyone help identify the picture?
                                Thanks.
