The information I provided above regarding the engines being "stuck" in the rear of the engine bays at St. Louis is essentially as it was related to me on several occasions by Phil Hawkins and George Barlos, both of whom worked at St. Louis Corvette for about 25 years.

Yes, that's true, and it's very possible that one or two engines at the back of the group sat for quite a while.
I would guess that it was unlikely that this occured frequently though, especially a nearly four month spread between engine date and vehicle production date.
