    '62 trunk mat question

The JG says that the trunk mat was a two-layer affair, rubber as the base with vinyl laminated to it. Does this hold true for black? I would think not, as the part number is said to be molded-in on the black, and stamped on the colored. This would indicate that the black mat was not two layers. The second layer of color would cover the molded-in part number, hence the ink stamp part number.

The mat in the car I looked at had 6 22 3 stamped on the back. Sounds like maybe June 22, 3rd shift (?). Make sense? Car was built late July.

    Thanks,
    Charlie

Black is indeed one piece in '62.

Second layer was extremely thin--did not cover the molded-in part number on original colored mats, because original colored mats had no molded-in part number. 2nd generation GM mats had molded-in, thus no stamping necessary, and not correct for judging.
