Re: 67 Big Block water pump
Phil, one of the very few original parts missing off my '67 bigblock car (built early April 1967) is it's original water pump, but I have examined many, many casting # 3856284 originals and they all had 1/4 hex head bolts on the rear cover.

Re: 67 Big Block water pump
Do the '66 and '67 manuals call for a back plate (and attaching bolts) that are different than that described for '65?

Re: 67 Big Block water pump
Attached are photos of an NOS big block waterpump with a date of July, 1966. You will note that it has the pan head, slotted screws with the lipped backing plate. However, I believe that the screw style changed to hex sometime in 1967.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 67 Big Block water pump
Thanks guys for the info so far, I checked my two 67s ,the one built Fed. has the pan screws and my april car has the 1/4 hex bolts. So if my cars are correct (both restored) Joes guess about change over, flyes. Anybody else Thanks Phil 8063- Top

Re: 67 Big Block water pump
Joe L. is right about 99.9% of the time.
I also own a 45,000 mile 1966 Chevelle SS396, that still has it's original water pump. Car was built April 1966 at the Fremont, California assembly plant. That pump has the flat back plate, and pan screws. Pump dated 12/65.
Wayne's input and photo also was helpful and follows the majority of input I have gotten on 1965 bigblock pumps.
The only in question in my mind about the 1967 bigblock water pumps is ....... when did the change over occur (enbossed rear cover, and 1/4 hex bolts).
I'm hoping you get more comments/opinions from 1967 owners...
