Micro wheel weights add grams - When?

Micro Bada wheel weights added gram designations to their weights sometime in the early or mid-seventies. I've searched the archives and some have ideas, but no one seems to know for sure. Some say the 70 -72 don't have the grams on them. One claims the change was for '74 model year and up. Anyone know for sure?

I can tell you for sure that factory installed 1970-72 wheel weights, regardless of brand, did not have grams on them. For the rest of your question, I can not help.

Just wondering if Lyle Chamberlain could provide any thoughts, insights, comments based on the history of his ownership of '73's and his judging experiences? Also, if there are any original owner '74's...feel free to share the name of the original weights on your vehicle. Thanks for the help.

I have an original 75 NOS spare still on the original wheel with a "Perfect Equipment" wheel weight. The wheel date code is "K15 3 4 AZ" (March 4, 1975). The tire date Code is "VDU5 FMJ095" (10th week of 75). The wheel weight has 1.5 embossed on it along with the arrow logo.

If I remember correctly the first attempt to change to metrics occurred in about the mid 70's. Some Highway signs where changed adding Kilometers to them but most Americans objected. So that died and I think it was revived again in the 80's but not mandated by the federal government as in the 70's. My guess is that it occurred some time in the mid to late 80's we started seeing items measured in both metric and USA traditional measurements.

          I think?

75-77 wheel weights: HALCO? Anyone have a photo?

It's interesting that there is an example of a weight made by Perfect Equip Corp on a '75, because they are one of the known suppliers GM used since the 60's.

The 75-77 TIM&JG does not mention Perfect weights, but it says weights by HALCO were used. I would very much like to see a photo of an original HALCO wheel weight. Is there anyone out there with a 75-77 that has a HALCO weight who could take a photo and post it?

            Thanks,

            Gary

The wheel weight on our 75's original spare is the same as the one Alger has posted only it is 2.0.

Interesting info about metric conversions. My '75 speedometer has KPH as well as MPH, so some things were already metric at GM by '75.

Brian, Could you possible post a picture of your Perfect Equipment wheel weight and also the tire & wheel date codes? Thanks, Alger
