Clutch and brake pedal assembly '62

I am running into a small issue with the rebuild of my clutch and brake pedal assembly. I got new bushings from Paragon and have them installed but when putting the clutch pedal shaft back into the bushings it is running up against the shoulder on the shaft of the clutch pedal. (see the picture) It seems to be a good fit on the shaft until it gets to that point. I don't want to force it and destroy the bushing.
How much pressure (what size hammer! ) should I use to push the shaft into the bushing? Or is something amise here?

    THanks

    David -

It would appear from the photo on the left that the shaft is fully installed with the end of the shaft shoulder against the bushing; if it went in the additional length of the shoulder, the pin bracket on the clutch pedal would interfere with the edge of the pedal support.

John, I apologize, I didn't explain those pictures very well. The first one is how it was when I took it out to rebuild it. I just circled the area that I was talking about trying to be clear about that. I should have gone into more detail, sorry.
It appears to me that the shaft should go into the bushing all the way to the pedal arm as it looks in picture one. With the new bushings in place the shaft does not go in all the way to the pedal arm even with a little help from my 6 pounder.
Is there something I should be doing to help it alone a little? I don't want to destroy the new bushing.
      Sorry for the confussion.

Can you post a picture of the problem. That would help.

Terry, the problem is the shaft with the shoulder appears to be too large to fit into the new bushings.
          These new pictures may help.
Picture one shows you the shaft in the bushing and the shoulder on the shaft. Picture two shows the shaft pushed into the bushing as far as it will go, but it needs to go the rest of the way so the shaft is not visible at all when installed correctly. It should butt up against the inside of the pedal arm. The shoulder is about 1/16" or less but has a square edge, not tapered. If I try to force it into the bushing it will ruin the bushing for sure. Maybe the bushings are not correct?
Has anyone else run into this problem?

Well, I figured it out. This could only happen to me.....If you knew me, you'd understand. My middle name should be Murphy!
It seems that when I painted these parts I neglected to remove the old bushing from the shaft and painted it so well that I didn't notice that it wasn't part of the shaft. So, I was trying to put an old bushing into a new bushing and of course it won't fit.
On closer examination I discovered the edge of the old bushing and was able to remove it by breaking the painted seam away from the shaft.
With just one bushing it fits pretty good!
Sorry to have bothered you all with this one. What can I say?! What a Goober!

A properly mounted bushing is better than two bushings in the hand...couldn't help myself :-)

Murphy is a better middle name than Bubba

Your progress is a lot of help and entertainment for all of us headed down the same road.

Entertainment is a really good way to put it Jerry!

Education is a good description too! I am educating everyone on how NOT to do it!
