Does anyone have a suggestion to keep a can of fiberglass resin from "closing" the opening with crystallized resin? I just opened a new can and have always tried to clean the lip of can and cap for a better seal but over time they seem to deteriorate. Thanks, Don H.

Re: fiberglass resin
Yep...even the MEKP catalyst has a short life. If you attempt to use dated resin and catalyst you run the risk of having a repair that is "gummy" forever. No amount of time or heat is going to help you. I always worry about how long the vendor has had the stuff on the shelf, but you have no control over that.
Plan all your fiberglass repairs carefully and purchase just the resin you need. You'll probably have to buy at least a quart minimum. When you're done with your repairs, throw the rest away (dispose off "properly).
The amount of money I've thrown down the "aged resin" rathole over the years brings tears to my eyes.- Top

Re: fiberglass resin
This is one of the reasons why I use SMC resin instead of polyester resin. SMC resin has overall better prefomance than the old stuff. If you use a white cream hardner it looks just like polester when dried.
But when I used to use polyester I used to clean the lid and opening carefully and put a few layers of seran wrap on the opening to try and lengthen the shelf life.
