Placement of emissions sticker on 69 BB

I've got a 69 427/390hp coupe which was judged at an NCRS event last fall. One of my deductions was for a missing emissions sticker. I looked over a couple of other cars, and the emissions sticker is usually on the flat area behind the power brake booster. Is this the correct location for this sticker? The sticker I acquired from Corvette Central is 6 1/2" by 1 1/2". The flat area is roughtly 6 5/8" x 4 3/4". How is the sticker located? The location, width wise, seems obvious, but how high from the bottom of the flat area should the sticker be positioned?

    TIA

    Ken

Sticker was applied by hand and therefore the exact position varied based on human factors. The majority I've seen 'tend' to be aligned with the forward bottom of the flat area. But, I've seen originals that were cocked as well as a few that were skewed off center.

We tend to get questions like this (What's 'right') on items like stickers. Folks tend to forget that if there were a 'correct' position it's something that gets called out by a note in the AIM. Otherwise, the attachment was kinda/sorta in the position generally shown in the AIM with vehicle to vehicle variations based on human factors...

There is no consistent location. People put them on -- sometimes before their first cup of coffee. Even from side to side -- we see some hanging over the edge.

I assUme someone restored or refinished this area on your car, otherwise you would see the glue residue and know where to put it.

        Hi Ken,
In 71 the locations for the tune-up sticker, the stickers on the rear compartment doors, the price label (that's what it's noted as), and the vehicle certification sticker, are shown in the AIM.
There aren't dimensional locations but just placement indications. The note for the tune-up label only indicates that it must be placed "so the label may be read from the front of the vehicle".

If you have a 69 AIM perhaps the info is there.

As they say, one picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks Mark. I sort of figured that the placement was roughly vertical and horizontal center. Your photo proves it. Thanks again.

In support of what you said, the family owns two 1969 Mustangs that, according to Ford Customer Service, were both built on October 2, 1968 at the San Jose (Milpitas) CA assembly plant. When my son bought the fastback in 1994, I noted that the emissions sticker on the left shock tower was inverted, and wrote it off to some previous owner not paying attention while trying to restore the car. I peeled it and replaced it with one mounted "correctly". In 1998 I bought a 69 convertible that, as it turned out, was built on the same day as the fastback. The emissions sticker on that car was inverted too. I can only surmise that some guy on the line was either too dumb or too hung over to notice that he was putting the stickers on upside down. BTW, October 2, 1968 was a Wednesday, so it wasn't the "Monday/Friday" effect.

                  Alan,
Do you have a photo of the emissions stickers on your '71? Is that the only year with 2 stickers located behind the master cylinder?

Those 1970s with NA9 were the original with two stickers behind the master cylinder. The first couple thousand 1971s all got them to 1) warn techs about the vapor recovery system & 2) use up the stock of yellow stickers on hand.

Mark I tried to place them as close as the originals. Also mine at this point the last know one with the second label S/N 1914

Before I attached the sticker to my LT1 last week, I took a look at the '70 AIM. The Aim appears to show the sticker a bit higher than those pictured, although its not very clear.

                        Thanks.
