4-speed shifter - need to spend more money!!!

Another of many things I need to buy to get my rolling chassis back together is a shifter and linkage. This is for a C1 (1960) and of course is a BW T10.

All the vendors sell these parts. I am assuming that there probably aren't that many manufacturers of these 4-speed shifters. Does anyone know or had problems with reproductions 4-speed shifters.

Right now I am included to go with Paragon because I get the best discoutn there.

    Thanks,

    Don

Don, Vette Products of Michigan bought the GM tooling. I think there may be others, but not sure what else is out there. I think most vendors pedal the Vette Products shifters.

I bought mine from Vette Products. Had two minor problems that may be inherent even in originals. First the bottom mounting bolt interferes with the sheet metal piece that captures the bottom of the shift handle. That can be bent out of the way just enough to clear. The second problem was the top rear mounting bolt interferes with the shift handle when it is all the way forward (first and third). You have to adjust neutral position just right so neutral is as far back as possible. I e-mailed Vette products, and while all they could tell me was it is identical to all GM shifters, they did promptly call me back and discuss it. Otherwise it looks original (at least to me) and works good. -Dan-

Reverse lockout was missing from my original 4 speed shifter ( 62 vette ).....didn't know that i could just buy the lockout handle and spring ....so i bought a complete shifter with lockout from Corvette Central....It was spot on to the original....I sold the original to NCRS member who needed one without lockout for a 59 vette.

        Thanks,

I will go ahead and purchase a reproduction. I was told by the vendor that their shifter is US made, so I assume it is likely Vette Products manufacture.

Hi Jerry, 59 was first year for lock-out. Your customer should had needed the lock-out. Also the shift cover plate and boot are different. Lock-outs have the lower corner rounded. You probably know this - just clarifying for everyone. -Dan-

Dan...I just looked ....the original shifter w/o the lockout went to the owner of a 58....not a 59...he knew what he needed...I wasn't sure when the lockout was added....but he was aware that it was missing....thanks for the info

Don, If it's a driver I would go with the Hurst shifter. Bought mine on ebay and it works just fine.
