61-62 Headlight Bezel to Fender Top Trim Extensions

I see that the 1962 Headlight Bezel to Fender Top Trim Extensions are riveted onto the headlight bezel/door. In the AIM section 11-13 sheet 4 it shows the 2 rivets, but it is unclear if the rivet is part of the extension?

If I drill out the rivet to remove the extension for painting, can I easily rivet it back on?

There is no rivit used.
The back of the extension has a cast in stud which goes through the painted headlight ring or bezel.
It is sometimes difficult to get a good fit to the fender top trim.

Should I just leave the extension in place and mask off around it for painting?

The extension is nice and I do not plan on replacing it)

You can either mask it for paint or grind off the flat part of the post and then epoxy it back on.
