    Vin Pad on EBay

The car is advertised as a numbers matching car, and it appears to be numbers matching, but what's up with this vin pad. Someone spent a ton of money from the pictures but.............WOW

Gary, I just got up about an hour ago, and only had one coffee so far,, but what do you think is the WOW? Yes about 1/32" thick paint on it, the vin derivative looks embossed versus stamped, but maybe that's just my eyes. If it was a angle photo it would be better, but ......I don't see it yet. Maybe I need more coffee.

Do you have a link to the ad?

Is this a '67?????? Oh crap I just noticed the "V".......I need more coffee

I'll look for the ad now. This is getting weird.

edit.....My bad.....the V is correct. I thought it was supposed to be F for flint but didn't realize in 67 it was V.

Ok I found the ad. It's Here.
I just saw the vin tag. The rivets are not rosette.
I don't know so I'm going to get more coffee.

I am by no means an expert, just never saw a vin pad with raised numbers that was presented as original? I am ready to stand corrected.

I think it's a optical illusion. They appear raised, but there's so much paint in there and the shot is directly overhead, they probably just look raised. If you look at the un-enlarged photo on ebay you see it I think. Notice the Assy stamp is in a shadow, but the vin number is in bright light.

They do seem raised, but it is just the way the photo was shot from the lighting. The shadow that you see on the Assy stamp is that from the fuel filter.
You just need more caffeine in your coffee.

What about that BB hood he states came with the car? I thought that had been debunked here several times.

The hood listed as the real "rare" factor of the car is hilarious. The engine pad stamps are a riot with some of these cars. I have a small collection of funny ones. Here is one from a newly restored, numbers matching, real-deal, '67 L36 advertized recently by a big C2 Corvette dealer who should know better:

                  How about a link?

I was able to get past the optical illusion part, but what up with the cracks on the forward side of the pad? Furthermore, the whole pad profile looks funky to me.

Here yes, but there's several over on that other web site that continue to beat the proverbial dead horse. This same car touched off another round of thrashing.

Gary, Several years ago, I believe it was Vette Vues ran an article about a 67 435 Corvette. The original engine was sent to the machine shop with Instructions "Don't deck the block" but of course it was. The owners freaked, call everyone about what to do. I think it was the FBI that said if you heat the pad up cherry red the number will invert back out and the did. That car has inverted numbers and is represented as original.

I owned a LT1 with an original engine that had been decked. I never tried the cherry red thing.

                          Greetings,

I'm not CERTAIN that this is the same seller, but awhile back there were auctions on eBay for mid years where the lister was taking an NADA boost on the value because the Corvette had the "optional" 327 engine-- REGARDLESS of horsepower. And this engine is dressed as a 350 hp car and with an automatic? And the car is ready for "top flight NCRS judging"? Of course he doesn't have a photo showing the engine number part of the pad. Nor does he have a photo showing the left side of the engine. (I can't recall the number of mid years I've seen on eBay where the car is stated as being a 327 but there is no fresh air connection on the back of the left side of block. Also numerous cars listed on eBay with no fresh air connection to the crankcase at all and yet a pcv valve on the oil fill pipe!!! How functional is that?) This may be a nice car but it certainly does raise a few questions.

Seller makes no mention of the horsepower rating and like Willam stated it's dressed as a 327/350 but has a tank sticker indicating a powerglide. I also like the vin tag rivet. Maybe Home Depot.
