    Most accurate L56-57 heat riser?

I am looking for a new late 56-57 3 bolt heat riser. Mine is rusty and I'm not sure all the soaking in Evapo-Rust and MMO is ever going to bring it back to life lol.

What vender is selling the most accurate reproduction of these heat risers? I'm wanting correctness but also function for a driver and I'm also not sure an NOS unit, if I could find one, would be very reliable for long.

    Thanks!

I think a NOS unit is your best bet for authenticity. Just find one that has been dry stored and I bet that's the solution. The repros are not the same. I just bought a repro 2 1/2" unit from Zip. Nice, but I can tell the difference.

Alex, you need one with TOP on it and not UP. Just saw this one on ebay

I messaged him to be sure it does say "TOP" on it just like my original.

                Thanks!

                  Gary responded:

"It does have "TOP" in raised letters on the ledge. I do not know though if it is NCRS approved.
                  Thanks,
                  Gary"

I'm not sure if I should trust, the price is hard to beat though...

I wish I could be there but being 30 and having to work like the normal smucks, I can't take the time off work lol.

Alex, if the photo is correct and the heat riser has the little spring on it like the photo shows and everything's is good shape. If you're going to Kissimmee you should probably agree to buy it subject to personal inspection at the swap meet. It won't last long there. JMTCW, Gary....

I believe that there is a slight difference between 56 and 57 heat riser.

56 does not use a donut type gasket, 57 does.

56 heat riser part number is 3731396
57 heat riser part number is 3734204

Assuming you have 56 exhaust pipes (and not 57 and later pipes), will a 57 heat riser work on a 56?

56 exhaust header flange is flush and welded to the exhaust pipe. Very late 56's more than likely had the '57 heat riser muffler system with the doughnut and non-welded header flange. Same as most had '57 frames.

Since Alex's 56 is a late car it will be interesting to see which type of heat riser his car has - flush or doughnut type?

                              Hmmm, interesting!

I don't plan on physically removing my heat riser until about mid-February when I'll be rebuilding my distributor, replacing the rear main seal, and putting the ignition wire shielding back on behind the exhaust manifolds. Since I was going to remove the manifolds for cleaning and to make it easier to do the shielding and add the french locks, I figured I would replace the heat riser.

                              P.S.: I didn't know 57 frames differed from 56 frames?
