66 master cylinder is sloped up in the front when installed on the car. This causes air to be trapped in the front of the cylinder. I've had succes in removing the front wheels, lowering the front of the car and jacking up the back very high to get the master cylinder level. Then bleed. good luck, Kenn Carlson

I used a Motive Products speed bleeder for the first time last night and can tell you I had my brakes bled in twenty minutes. I was astounded how well it worked over the have a buddy push the pedal technique that was all I had ever done in the past.
I highly recommend their product and thank John Hinckley for the heads up on this tool.
I hear lots of possitive feed back for this product and if I have any problems in the bleeding process after the MC is corrected I will definately get one whereas DOT 5 apparently is more difficult to bleed than conventional DOT 3/4 fluids.
      Thank you !

        Re: C2 Bleeding Frustration STILL.

        Ralph,
If I posted on your other post then I'm sorry for the re-reply.

I built a tank for under $25.00 that bleeds from the bottom up, not top down.
I learned early while bleeding my airplane brakes that it was impossible to pedal bleed being that the MC was to small and the bubbles rise in the lines faster than I can refill the M/C. It is impossible to pedal bleed most airplanes.

I push the bubbles in the direction that they want to go without worry of running the MC dry.
The only restrictions are that you use less than 15lbs of air over the fluid and you (on the car) keep the MC from over flowing as you push fluid from the caliper upward to the MC.
I can do all that by myself on the car because you can stop flow knowing the bubbles are going toward the MC. You can also go up and drain the MC while pushing fluid and have time to go back and turn it off.

Another good point about this system is that you can start any where you want with the bleed.

All that is needed is a tank the bug people throw away or a aircondition tank that they throw away.

1..TANK that says NON FLAMIBLE LIQUID
        1..3/4 female pipe fitting
        I.. air guage 0 to about 50
        3 feet clear neoprene line
1.. fitting that adapts to the on off valve to the neoprene line
1.. brass tee to fit a male 3/4 pipe fitting with 1/8 or 1/4 female pipe thread

Fit the brass tee to the female threads in the 3/4 pipe plug.

Fit the guage and fill valve to the brass tee

Fit the neoprene line to the valve that comes with the tank (see what is needed here)

Then weld or solder female 3/4 female fitting to the tank top

Drill the fill hole in the center of the 3/4 female fitting that you welded to the tank, clean & fill the tank with more than you need to do the job.

Screw the plug with the guage & fill valve in the female 3/4 fitting that you welded to the thak.

Presurize and test for leaks. If no leaks open the valve and push some fluid thru the line till the bubbles are gone. Save the fluid and put it in the tank when done.

I put a small box end wrench on the caliper bleed between the neopreen and caliper to reduce WRENCH DROP.

If you put more than 15 lbs in the tank it will compress the bubbles and you will not see them in the clear line.

Sounds like a lot of work but the only hard part is the weld.

The neoprene line should push over your caliper bleed and you can monitor the line for any bubbles that you didn't bleed out.

I have 3 of these I use for different brake systems and they can save money and time when guessing on failures.

Ken, you are absolutely correct ----------- I just looked at an "under the hood" picture of my 66 and it sure looks significantly sloped up.

So I will level the MC as you suggested to bleed and remove that variable.

Thank you, I would have never realized that !!

              Dan,
I sure will, I thought of that yesterday and forgot. I will take pictures today and have them in the AM tomorrow.

                Dan,
Here are a few I built with what I had in the shop. I've been talked out of 3 tanks after helping a few exhausted guys at their witts end. Once they saw how fast and easy it solved their problem they had to have it.

These aren't configured exactly as I sugjested but you will get the idea. I built these with what I had in the shop at the time.

The red tank has 5606 fluid for aircraft brakes and other hydraulic components.
The small gray tank is for DOT 5 and the large gray tank can be used for brakes but I use it to preasurize engine oil systems (pre- oiling).

Nonsense. DOT 5 is no more difficult to use than DOT 3/4. It does require more patience, but that's it.

The "secret" is just do everything at a glacial speed with the DOT5.

Pour slowly along a pouring guide. Pump the pedal slowly. Release the pedal slowly. It's not any more difficult than that.

Regarding gravity bleeding with DOT5.... I've done it. No big deal. In fact gravity bleeding plays well to the requirement of letting things happen slowly.

Another home made unit, but this one is a vacuum tank. I have found it useful for drawing old brake fluid from the master cylinder, and drawing fluid through the lines to the calipers or wheel cylinders.
