Points or transister ignition on 1967 435 HP

Was the 1976 427/435 HP available with piont ignition rather than transistor ignition?

My black book says 435 only used the 1111258 distributor for transistor ignition.

      Dom -

Transistor Ignition was part of the L-71 option; it wasn't available with point ignition.

But they run much better and are more reliable with points/ballast resistor or Petronix.

          Michael,
Are you running points on your 427/435?

I was gearing up to put a point distributor on mine because it was converted to a Hays Stinger ignition, that was a fad in those days.

It would be nice If the Hays pick up in the distributor would work with the stock unit.

Thanks for seeing past my transposed year 1967 instead of 1976.

Dominic, on my 435 I use my original T.I. distributor with K&B's upgraded module in the original amplifier. It looks original and has preformed GREAT for the last 3 year.

I am using the same upgrade as Bill. I could not ask for any better performance.

Where can I get info on it, and do they change the pick up in the distributor as mine was already changed to the Hays Stinger pickup?

Also, you could talk to Dave Fiedler who advertises in Driveline.

Yes, I'm running points and a ballast resistor. I just disconnected the cantankerous and shoddy TI wires, but left the whole thing there so during flight judging I don't loose hardly any points. It runs great, and so much better than the old TI unit. I tried a rebuilt module, but it still was missing and stuttering (and many hundreds of $$ later), so I just gave up and went to something I know how to deal with. I am thinking about Petronix though, I have one in my Max Wedge Dodge and it works very well.

                          Thank's Michael,
I am going to go that way also as I also hate staring at a box and wondering what went wrong inside.
The points are so reliable and easy to fix on the road if needed.

I am going to take good advice Bob and William gave also.

It's funny but I carried a spare distributor (W/O tach drive) all the time in the car just to feel safe.

Hi guys, while searching for info on a 71 cont/folding lid hinge bracket removal I ran across this post, I recently had a crazy intermittent problem with one of my cars. It would have hesitation on start up,backfire, poor idle and engine cut off. Thought it was related to the 4 jet carb I had rebuilt about 6 months prior but it wasn't. After chasing my tail taking the carb apart a few times finding no problem I popped the distributor out of my67(which had a very old set of points in it) put it in the car and it ran great. Turned out to be a defective petronix module I installed just before the carb overhaul ?? Electronics are great but can be hard to fix on the road. By the way ,do any of you got any tricks on how to get the hinge 2 bolts out ,can barely get my fingers on them.
                            Thanks Jim
