cleaning engine pad

Gentlemen, I am rebuilding my original 66 engine and am wondering how I should clean the surface rust off of my engine pad without harming it. Any body have ideas< Thanks, Russ

WD40 or PB Blaster penetrating fluid, let it soak in for a while.

Pardon the interruption, but I was just going to post. How do you remove paint from the pad without damaging the metal or stamp. The builder painted mine over with Chevy orange. Thanks

Chemical aircraft stripper or Dot 3 brake fluid for paint removal and naval jelly for rust removal.

yep. I use paint stripper on a paint brush. Brush it on and let it sit a few minutes. Wipe it clean. Works great.
