    Hi Don
I've used Allens exhast systems on 5 Cars over the years .A 59,A 66, and 3 71s. All system fit well, nothing hung down, and pipes exited were they were supposed to.His systems are very affordable and he will often times give you a discount and deliver to a show.

      GARDENER EXHAUST SYSTEMS at http://www.gardnerexhaust.com/1958-c...st-system.html

is the newcomer to Corvette exhaust systems. They have been supplying exhaust system for muscle cars of all brands for years and build a very correct repacement for high performance models .

I have been told their N-11 "OFF ROAD" muffler is very correct for NCRS Judging. Allen's example also has "no numbers" as originals did.

Remember, Many NOS GM mufflers in the past (late 80's and 90's) were made by OEM Manfacturers like Walker.

Yes, I looked at the Gardner web site, but the only thing on their web site showed was the standard low hp exhaust. I need the off road with crossover as I have a 270hp car. But I will call and see if they have it and just not pictured on their web site.

If you agree with that statement(which is correct), I would like to know who sells a correct '56 rear frame crossmember with he CORRECT spring hanger bracket. Thanks and Regards, Jim

I am a real beginner, but according to the 8th Edition of the Judging Reference Manual, Originality Deduction is 25% for a part that was not originally aluminized. The Chassis score sheet shows 20 originality points for "Mufflers, tail pipes & hangers". So I suppose the deduction would be 5 points.

Perhaps, an expert can verify if my analysis is correct.

Over the past year and a half I have been involved with three 1960 restorations including mine. I looked at all and went with CC Offroad. The other two cars went with CC oval. If you are patient the CC system will go in with little trouble. In my case I have too much length in the tail pipe section by 3/8 of an inch. Hope this helps

Spoke to Gardner when I was doing my 60 because of what I heard and read here about the mid year off roads (N11). He was nice enough and told me he was still working on C1 mufflers. I went with CC and am very pleased.

                    Re: C1 Replacement Exhaust

I have just installed my complete exhaust system that I purchased from Paragon. They direct shipped it from a vendor in Indiana I think.
The system looks like good quality and for the most part fit without any problems. Getting a system like this mailorder, it is not likely to fit perfectly anyway.
I think if I had to do it again I would buy the mufflers and have a custom exhaust shop build the system to the car. That way they could tweak it if they needed to. The design of this system does not leave much room for error.

If your system was drop shipped from Indiana I'll bet it came from Allen's in Logensport. As stated in a previous post I've bought several systems from Allen's and had little if any problems. The C-1 seemed to be the most problematic ,because of the tight fit. It's no wonder they ran those little pee shooter exhaust pipes, no room.

                        Hi Donald,

I used the CC off road exhaust on my '62 about 8 years ago. I was amazed at how well it fit. It is still in excellent shape (after only 3,000 miles) and I will be reusing it when I reassemble the car from this body off that I am currently doing.

My (recently purchased) '62 has offroad mufflers. Maybe I'm getting old (well, I am) but I'm finding the sound to be a bit "raw". Does anyone have an opinion on the ovals and how they sound? I want subtle muscle, not blatant "in your face" muscle.

ps and a recommended supplier? (CC, Allen's, other?)

I have the ovals from CC on my red 62 and like the stock sound. I may give the off-roads a try down the line with my white one.

                                Re: C1 Replacement Exhaust

I did end up buying the off road system from Corvette Central. I have installed on my rolling chassis (less engine and transmission) and it went together pretty good, with one problem.

If you look at the attached pictures, I have the mufflers prettly much in line and even with each other (photo 1). The passenger (right) side muffler pipe clamping area falls right on the crossmember hanger and clamp as it should. But if you look at the driver (left) side, the muffler pipe clamping area is back from the frame hanger/clamp. I have tried to play with adjusting everything, but it looks like I have going to have to use an separate muffler clamp just behind the frame hanger/clamp.

Anyone else seen this with the CC off road system for C1s?

                                Thanks,
