    Refinishing Wheels

I am in the process of refinishing the wheels on my 60. I am leaning to blasting them and repaint but have been told powder coat is the way to go. Also been told wheel covers may not stay on powder coat wheels.

I guess it would depend on how much faith you had in the expert who told you that PC is the way to go. Was he speaking from experience, or just hypothesizing? Here is a previous thread I found on the question that might be of some help.

      Dan,
I had a friend who had powder coated wheels and the first time he put the wheel covers on it scratched the powder coating down to bare steel so I opted for good old rattle can paint instead of paying the big bucks.

A proper stripping to the metal. Neutralize any rust. Do a proper self etching primer. Wet sand with 1000 then use a quality wheel paint like Duplicolor. You can even follow up with a coat of semi-matte or gloss clear. Keep the coats thin. Too much paint will make them chip easier.

Both sets of mine have been media blasted and powder coated with no problems. It's not like you are taking them off every day.
