Does anyone know why the crossed flags on the Corvette emblem switched sides starting with the C4s?

On the C1-C3 emblems, the red flag was on the left, and the checkered flag was on the right. On the C4s to current, the checkered flag is on the left, and the red flag on the right.

Just curious...does anyone know why the switch?

Anyone who knows the answer gets the title of "Corvette Trivia King"!

The Corvette emblem was flipped around for 1984. New model C4 generation. New "flags". That was done on purpose. Jerry Palmer was the Chief Corvette Designer at that time. He felt it needed to be reversed to the other side because it looked more balanced that way. And it has stayed that ever since. Each time the emblem is changed, it's a big deal and when Palmer flipped that around it caused a lot of chatter in GM but in the end they all liked how it looked. Who knows what the C7 Corvette "flags" will look like ?
