    64 Differential Fill Plug Gasket

What type of gasket is used on a 64 differential fill plug. My parts book calls for a gasket, 3714775, which is discontinued. Paragon says it should be a copper washer. The only thread I could find in the archives dealt with the plug for 65-79.

Hi Neil, no matter what gasket you use, it will probably leak a little, especially with posi warning disc in place. Recommend Loctite 545 thread sealant in addition to a gasket, only way I got my 64 to quit weeping.

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

Some used an o-ring, look to see if there is an under cut on the plug. The 63-64 were a machine thread then they went to 3/4 npt plugs in 65.

I have some NOS examples of the GM #3714775 gasket. It appears to me to be cut from about 1/8" thick brown leather.

Dan, The Loctite 545 is a life safer. Probably one of the best Loctites made when it comes to fluids.
Must be or Cat and Harley D wouldn't use it on the assembly line.
Loctite 545 comes from industrial tool supply companies. Not auto stores.
My 63 Oil pan plug alway oozed a tad. Smeared it with 545 and no more leak.
            Great for anything hydraulic.
