The AIM indicates the the lower part of the RH ignition shield attaches to something. Sect-102, Sheet 5.00. There is a hole on the bottom of the shield. See pics. But what does it attach too? Is it on top of the horizontal shield where the wing nut is?

Re: 62 Ignition shield RH attachment?
Mike, the RH horizonal shield mounts to a couple of brackets that are attached to right exhaust manifold. The bracket already have a threaded hole. If you use the same rear hole of the RH horizontal shield (put the wing bolt thru both) I don't see where the J-nut goes. Or am I missing something here?- Top

Re: 62 Ignition shield RH attachment?
Jerry, If I slip the j-nut over the end of the horizontal shield and atthch the RH vertical shield to it, the wing bolt is not long enough to go thru all into the bracket attached to the exhaust manifold. Or should the j-nut be eliminated?Attached Files- Top

Re: 62 Ignition shield RH attachment?
I did this a few months ago.....i believe the J-clip slips onto the vertical piece where the slot is....then the vertical piece fits inside of the horizontal piece....and the wing nut threads from the bottom.....i bought my kit from CC and i remember the j-clip was wrong thread size and buggered my wingnut....got correct j-nut from lowe's
good luck again....maybe someone else knows better- Top

Re: 62 Ignition shield RH attachment?
That's correct - the U-nut goes over the slot on the tab on the bottom of the vertical shield.- Top

Re: 62 Ignition shield RH attachment?
Call me dense. Let me start over and post more pics. If the horizontal shield is already mounted to the bracket that comes off of the exhaust manifold with the wing nut. Then where are you attaching the verticle shield to it? There is only one hole toward the rear of the horizontal shield. See pics.Attached Files- Top

Re: 62 Ignition shield RH attachment?
there shoild be a hole in the bottom lip of the horizontal piece near the end closest to the fire wall...the vertical piece with the horizontal kick-up with the j-clip fits into the horizontal piece ( like stuffing a taco ).....the wing nut then goes thru the hole in the bottom lip then treads into the j-clip of the vertical piece kick-up
securing the vertical piece to the horizontal piece doesn't have any thing to do with the horizontal shield mtg. brkt.
good luck once again.- Top

Re: 62 Ignition shield RH attachment?
John:
When the horizontal is mounted with the 2 wing nuts, there should be another hole on the bottom rear side of the horizontal piece. Mine has the nut attached to the hole of the vertical and then the wing nut goes through the horizontal bottom side hole into the j nut

Re: 62 Ignition shield RH attachment?
If you look at section 102, Sheet 5.00 of the '62 assembly manual, you can see the side shild with a circle and "B" in it, and number 1 pointing to a single wing bolt that comes up from the bottom. Not the clearest, but look at that with the above discussion in mind and I think you will see it. the clip (part number 3730322 (NUT) is shown attached to the slot in the verticle shield, with the wingbolt coming up from the bottom. Should be a hole in the bottom rear of the pass side horizontal shield if you have the horizontals in the correct locations. (pass side only uses this configuration)Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 62 Ignition shield RH attachment?
My passenger side horizontal shield is chrome plated not stainless and has the reenforcing rib down the middle, but no extra hole for the attachment of the verticle shield. Could this be a wrong shield? Can someone post a picture of theirs?- Top

Re: 62 Ignition shield RH attachment?
A thousand apologies to the replies on this thread. I put the correct shield on the the passenger side and have been trying to match up the holes off the car with the drivers side while reading the replies. Thank you all for your help.- Top
