Up under the dash of my 1957 especially aroung the scoops on tops of the fenders looks like someone sealed the area with tar . Is this correct? Does not look like it to me.Thanks in advace

no roofing tar but the scoops bonding panel is bonded to the top surround. also, bonding compound will ooze at the top surround/cowl panel interface and the front quarters ane the cowl panel interface. perhaps the bonding compound is what you're viewing. if so, the bonding agent/compound will be hard as rock, whereas roofing tar will allow penetration of a ice pick. mike -

Ya Mike this stuff looks like roofing tar . When i hit with a head gun it gets soft and you can scrape it off. i am pretty sure they were tring to stop water leaks.ThanksComment
