    Remembering Mike Hunt

Most of you know Mike Hunt for his research project RPO 56/57.

But his automotive interests and connections brought him in touch with many interesting people and cars.

Below is a picture of Mike standing next to a very interesting car known as project Vera. ( Vera Tucker ).

    The only Tucker convertible.

About the same time Mike sent me this picture he told me about a Yenko Nova..stuffed in a log cabin.

What a fun hobby and what a great guy.

I had the privilege of corresponding with Mike years ago regarding his 56/57 project. He often joked about writing a book based on the research, and I eagerly offered to be his pro bono proof reader. Sadly, that did not come about.

A pioneer in the hobby, a great writer, and a heck of a nice guy.

I still have correspondence from Mike, typed on an old typewriter. He used to tell me our communications were from Mad city to Mad city. We both lived in a town named Madison.

I understand that Kettering University is in the process of organizing his data for future research.

I think we lost a great deal more than what Mike had included on his Apple II discs. He was dealing with folks on a very person-to-person basis, and when his b_____t detector went off, it was "off". If Kettering is where the discs went, let's hope that someone knows what they are looking.
Mike RICHLY deserves remembering - he did what he KNEW was important, without worrying about making it pay. How different is that in 2011?

Yes Mike Hunt will always be remembered. He had so much knowledge/information and was willing to share it if you just asked, not trying to extort ridiculous amounts of money like some are doing now.

I personally attended his funeral and it was very sad, he was very proud of his U.S.A.F. days and graduating from the NSA school for the very first Vietnamese linguists. I would send him some letters sometimes with a little Vietnamese thrown in to lighten up his days.

We wrote many letters back and forth and a lot of times they had nothing to do with Corvette's but talked about fishing, his childhood, love for the outdoors, his beloved dog Ganse, etc.

          I really miss him!

I have the same, Ed, old letters written on his old typewriter. Never got a handwritten note from Mike.

              Good guy.

I think I have 3 or 4 of his letters where they switch from black lettering to red and vice-versa.....We referred to it as a Wisconsin State Grant to the 56-7 Research Foundation......
