    Door panel back repair 70

My original door panels look pretty good on the front with only one crack. But the backs mostly along the bottom have been wet and the fiberboard has flaked away some. There are some cracks in the fiberboard also. What would be good to seal them with and fill in the cracks?

Keith, the you might try some fiberglass mat and resin , This may help stiffen up the area.

      Hi Keith,
On my 71 I used a "crazy glue" like product. I found that by putting drops of the glue in certain areas it would 'wick' into the backing material and make it firm again.
I made a little tool out of a small piece of wood, with a piece of waxed paper on it, that I used to quickly put pressure on the repair if the backing material needed to compressed into it's original shape while the glue dried.
The glue I bought came with a powdered material that could be put into cracks to act as a filler and then the glue was to be applied.
It's sure worth a try since original door panels in nice condition are so difficult to find. What I used was called 'Q-Bond'; I found it at the auto store.
      Regards,
      Alan

Alan, some of my backing has flaked away. I kinda picked the loose layers off. I may need to build it back up in some areas. I had thought about the fiberglass resin but wanted to see what anyone else had tryed. maybe on mine a combonation of the two.
