1957 Grille mount brackets

I'm looking for some advise on how are tighten the grille mount brackets on the car ?
The nuts is exactly the size of the groove of the bracket and I'm not able to turn them to tighten them ?

does your question involve the grill surround or the horizontal bar that bolts to the oval or the teeth fastening to the hoirizontal bar? mike

The question involve the 5 black vertical grill mount brackets that bolts to the oval. on the upper and lower part of the oval.

Should I use washers to prevent the bolt to get in the groove ? that does not sound right to me ...

This is a picture from "inside the grill".

The nuts get and the bar groove and prevent to be tighten.

Hi Jean,
What you need is to first install a flat washer and then your nut. I am attaching a picture of what I am talking about.
