I see them on eBay every now and then, at least 1 every month it seems. Next one I see I'll forward you the link.

I have my original that I keep trying to send off to John Pirkle to clean and replace the gasket and free up the check ball but I have sent him 2 or 3 emails over the last 4 months and never get a reply. Just a heads up so you don't try and go trough him for the resto of the cap. I also wanted him to do my original radiator, which I also mentioned in my emails. I guess he is out of business or doesn't want the money.

Alex, I've done a lot of business with John Pirkle and have found that one must call him on the telephone.
I'm not going to call John "old", as I'm getting there myself, .....but I would say he is not a computer whiz. Just sayin....

I presumed he did since he had a website which advertises his email.

I'll try giving him a phone call then next week and give him the benefit of the doubt. Thanks!

Alexander, a good friend of mine is a personal friend of John Pirkle. He tells me that John is currently out of the country and will return on January 6th. You might want to wait till then to call. I also wanted to mention that to my knowledge he does not do radiators. He does starters, generators, alternators, voltage regulators, and horn relays. He can correctly stamp the tags that go on some of these components. Have a Happy New Year and I wish you all the best with your restoration. Brooks Glover (2141)

              Re: 1957 Gas cap

FYI, I called John 3 or 4 weeks ago for a generator. Left a message on his recorder. He called back 2 hours later and left a message on my recorder. Since then I have called him twice and he has not returned my call. So this is good info seeing he is OOP. If he has been out for a while he will probably be swamped when he returns, so I will wait a couple of weeks and let him settle in before I call again. -Dan-

                John -

Have you tried Grossmueller's, Mary Jo Rohner, or J.T. Piper? If you're looking for the vented Eaton cap like the photo below, it may take a while (and a FAT wallet).

That's the one he's looking for, I've seen them between $400 unrestored to $800 NOS.

Hello and many thanks, The cap pictured is the one I am looking for. I am still going to try and locate a NOS cap. If anyone locates one I would be glad to pay a finders fee. A Happy and Prosperous New Year to all and look forward to meeting some of you at the 2011 events. John
