Re: Got a strange call this morning...
Mark,
You mentioned this guy is not who you bought the car from but at some point he did sell the car WITHOUT the original motor and tranny and NOW he is trying to sweeten that price. Sounds like a saleman to me. If on the other hand he is a GENUINE car guy he would make your day by offering to get the motor and tranny back to the RIGHTFUL place. But if he was that real car guy he wouldn't have put a $5000 ransom on it in the first place. It is WORTHLESS to anyone that doesn't have the rest of the car.
I had a 327/250 auto 64 silver/blue convertible. BEAUTIFUL car and we enjoyed taking those scenic drives in it BUT with that engine if I rolled down the windows and closed my eyes I could very well have been riding in a 64 station wagon.
I would see if there is a member here on the forum from the Buffalo area that could go by the guy's place and check it out. Then IF it is what the guy says and not completely junk either make the trip yourself if you feel like a road trip offer $1000 in person or just do it over the phone. You said he contacted you so he has your number so when he DOES come to his senses and realizes what an A**HOLE he is being he can reach you.
Mark I'm assuming you bought the car knowing it didn't have the original engine and that didn't stop you from buying it. Worst case scenario is you STILL have the car you original bought and had enjoyment with. So if it doesn't work out that you end up with the engine don't have any regrets, remember how happy you were the first day you bought your car and drove it home!! Good luck.
