    Turn signal switch hub

The hub surrounding my turn signal assembly on the column is loose. It appears to be held securely by a single screw on the back left of the hub. I can't tighten it because the instrument panel is directly behind it.
Looks like the steering shaft needs to be lowered a bit to tighten the screw.
Am I on the right track?

    Peter,

The screw tightens a wedge within the hub. Try removing the bottom cover of the lower dash cluster. Then using a thin relatively short blade screw driver, with the handle in the void of the removed cover, try to work the screw.

I have been able to work this screw without chipping the hub or dash cluster using this method. I also install some painters tape on the hub and the dash cluster just in case.

It also simplifies future maintenance if you replace the original wedge screw with an allen-head screw.

          Dennis and John,

There's so little room I couldn't even get a modified, severe right-angle screwdriver in there after removing the lower cluster cover.

It appears that loosening the steering column enough to just move it down a half inch or so is the only way to get at that screw. I'm about to tackle that next. Any secrets to making that job easier? THANKS!!
