    Ever See Goldline SNOW Tires?

Hi folkz...new member here on the TDB with some odd Corvette trivia. When I finally contacted the original owner of my '66 Corvette in the late 1980's, he sent me some Polaroid photos from when the car was new. It was nice to see some visual confirmation of the many original options on the Vette (like the trio of sidepipes, knockoffs and goldlines), but what struck me the most were the goldline SNOW tires in this picture. Sorry for the small scan...this was considered 'large' back in the 1990's when I built my website.

Side Note: For fans of the hit song, 'Riding with Private Malone'...this photo was also used on the promo CD the writers of that song sent out. Thatz another story for the future...

Back in the 60's there was a business in Fort Wayne, IN, and I am certain in many other cities across the country, that would add various color stripes to any tires, as Diamond Back does today. 'Possibly the same here?

When I ordered my most recent tires from Diamond Back, I showed this image to them...it got a good laugh from their reps.

BTW- The date on the photo was Nov 65...the location was Coldwater, MI

Hi Steve when I worked for VW dealer (1970),a guy would come to the dealership and stripe the tires any color they wanted. I remember he did one with white, red and blue in one stripe on the tire. He had a machine that spinned the tire on the car and he would groove the tire and then stripe it. He mainly made white walls from black walls. Phil 8063

Haven't seen Goldline snows, but how about White wall snows?

P.S. That's me being handed over to my mom, on my way home from the hospital in dad's (now mine) 67.

Another possibility would be a retread of a OEM tire. Bandag comes to mind. They do mostly big rig tires, but have done passenger car tires as well.

When my 68 was found in 1990 or so it had not been on the road since 1973. It had snow tires on the back that are gold lines on one side and red on the other. I still have them in the garage. They were set up for "studs" but don't have them. They are Goodyear F70-15 "Suburbanite" tires They have the "Wide Oval" mark and another that says "Vyta-Chord"

That is a way cool shot and to know that car is still in the family makes it even more cool.

                      Jack,
Thanks for sharing that PIC of your 66. Original photos are the best...they are the top of the food chain when it comes to these old cars.
Anybody else have original shots of your corvette? I'll dig one up later...

Yup, passenger door was goodwood green originally. Car was hit before my dad bought it. It was hit hard enough to warrant to a new door, but the original frame wasn't even scratched.

I bought a set of F70-14 Goodyear Polyglass
for my 69 SS Camaro in 1974. Could not stand the thought of black or white walls on it.

Phil, when I visited the shop in Ft. Wayne I saw red, white, blue, gold, silver and green stripes. IIRC it was $5/tire to stripe.

If they are caps, they are hot caps, not Bandags. There is a very noticible difference. Hot caps come down the sidewall, Bandag (cold caps as some call them) are just on the face on the tire, no gum rubber down the side.
