    Corvette Oil Pan

I am in the process of rebuilding the original 327/250 engine in a 1965 corvette. I do not have the original oil pan, and I know the repos are not correct. Could someone give me a description of the originals.
    Thanks

    Ernest,

I read the repro from Keen parts is dead on, can you tell me what's not correct about it?

      Re: Corvette Oil Pan

There were two different oil pans. As I recall, starting in 63 the part number was 3820000. The part changed to 360866 or that is the Service Replacement. With 3820000 you need seal kit 3887151 and with 360866 you need seal kit 12337940. I do not recall when 3820000 was changed to 360866 in production but I'm pretty sure it's after 1965.

The front of 3820000 is 2 1/4 inches deep at the semi-circle and the 360866 is 2 3/8 inches deep at the semi circle.

Other than that both pans look identical.

Look at the one from Keen Parts, it's very close if not spot-on to the originals.

        Harry,
I thought all the hydraulic lifter small block oil pans 65 to 72 were the shallower front curvature.

I kinda remember a solid lifter 64 with the thicker front oil pan gasket but the pan may have been from an LT1.

I just do not remember using the thicker front gasket on anything lately. But then again the brain is getting less tolerant of retaining small details.........

Gene, your probably correct describing 65 being the year of the changeover.

Everything in my post is for the 4qt pan that allowed power steering. Since Ernest said it was a 250hp engine, I explained the difference in the two pans that would fit that engine.

The 3820000 oil pan was used on 1963-1974 Corvettes so these pans are not that rare . The small block Chevrolet factory oil pan front seal lip change (0.22" seal to 0.41" seal) first appeared on the 1975 Chevrolet models. The 3820000 oil pan was discontinued 1977.

The non-power steering small blocks use a 6 quart pan. The power steering small blocks us a 5 quart pan.

The 6-quart (system) pan was only used on solid-lifter small-block engines (and some early '65 L-79's); everything else used the 5-quart (system) pan.

Service replacement pans manufactured after 1975 (regardless of their earlier application) had the large front seal radius and used the "thick" (0.41") front seal.

Why is there no side view of the Keen Pan? A side view, if wrong, is a definable giveaway.

The Keen pan looks very correct to me. However, they are incorrect as to its year model application range. The pan was used for most 1963-74 Corvette small blocks (except those few equipped with the "6 quart" pan). However, this pan was not used for 1975-79 Corvettes. It could be retrofitted to those years with the change of other parts, but it was not originally used for those years.
