    Ballast Resistor & Pertonic??

    Should have make a diagram before removal but that's just hindsight. I know that the black wire from the ignitor goes to the neg. side of the coil, but can't remember the red wire location. Does it go to the green wire side of the ballast or to the brown side?

    Thanks

    Las;

    Do you have a Pertronix conversion and, if so, is it their "Ignitor Electronic Ignition" or their Ignitor II unit??

    Ignitor II should be run with a full 12 volt DC input and no ballast resistor. In either case the red wire can go to the + terminal on the coil, but you would want to bypass the ballast resistor if it is the II unit. The red wire is the power input, whether it be the running 12 VDC needed for a II unit, or the stepped down 8 VDC coming from the ballast resistor to a standard Ignitor unit.

      According to the ST-12 wiring diagram, the brown wire is +12vdc from the ignition switch.

        Re: Ballast Resistor & Pertonic??

        Stuart,

        Thanks for the quick reply but am still a little confused. I have the basic Ignitor system with their "flame" coil and seem to recall the red wire being connected to the ballast resistor. So to follow your advise, The black goes to the neg. side of the coil, the red to the positive side and the green from the positive side of the coil goes to the ballast resistor. Is this correct?

        Erich has a good point. The Pertronic web site does show the red wire going to the ignition wire side of the ballast.

          per my pertronix diagrahm, blk ignitor wire goes to - on coil...red ignitor wire goes to + on coil if no ballast used or to switched ignition wire if ballast is used

            Thanks to all,

            Just confirmed with Pertronic as follows:
            Black to Negative side of coil.
            Red to "Brown" Ignition side of Ballast Resistor.
            Green from Ballast Resistor to Positive side of coil.

            Thanks again
