    1962 Judging Questions

I need your assistance in clarifying two comments made on my Ohio regional judging sheets that I either failed to ask for clarification, or got it and forgot it (probably the latter).

    1) "We would expect to see exterior color paint overspray on door strickers and latches". Does this mean that some masking was done but maybe the bottom edge next to the body got overspray? Can't imagine the whole piece was painted. But....

    2) "Should not have orange paint on dipstick tube". Was the engine painted before the dipstick tube was inserted into the block?

    Thanks much for your help.

overspray is really more of a masking line on the shim and anti skid plates, I've always painted the dip stick and tube black and never had a deduct

Bill, Pls check the Assembly Manual, if the dipstick tube is shown as an assembly to the engine, it was installed at St Louis Assy Plant, & not painted orange with the engine. Most I have seen were bare, or very thin black. I am away from home & Don't have my books here with me. Barry Holmes

the entire striker wasn't painted, just about 1/8" of the striker where it attaches to the body and the 1/8" goes 360 degrees. as mentioned previously, it was masked off in a quick manner such that the 1/8" was left exposed. as far as the dipstick tube, natural works for me. mike

Dipstick tube was natural, per Judging manual. Strikers may/may not have had paint line, depending on the line worker. I've had three original-paint cars, two had paint line, one did not.
