    Question Regarding 1967 427 car ....

Is there anyway to verify a car is a real 390 HP car without a tank sticker/POP etc?

The transmission is serial # correct, but the block was replaced with 69 427 block years back by some previous owner. The half shafts are secured by caps not straps. The trim and VIN trags look un-altered and the body color and interior color/type are correct. Only options were PB, PS,tinted glass and radio

What are tell-tale signs of a real BB 1967.

What I'm affraid of is a dummied up BB car...

    Any help is appreciated.

      Bill,
-Hood support location on drivers side
-fuel line bend angle and length from front frame clip( by idler arm mount bracket) to end of line is about 10 inches on Big Blocks. On small blocks it is approx. 5''. This is only if line has not been replaced.
-St. Louis body (located on trim plate ) if serial number is above 1000.
-Rear sway bar (7/8") and attachment hardware. Bracket Holes in frame and rear trailing arm holes for bracket.
      - Front sway bar is 15/16" in diameter.
The only issue is all can be duplicated during restoration.
      Good Luck.

Joseph is correct, without a verified tank sticker, window sticker, or previous owner info/pledges, or dealer order/delivery info all the other things are easily put on the car. And after many years they can easily look "original". I think it is best to assume it is not one unless solidly proven otherwise.

All 427 base suspension anti-roll bar diameters are 7/8" front, 9/16" rear. Also all big blocks have "cap" type axle side yokes.

327 base suspensions have a 3/4" front bar, and F-41 427s substituted a 15/16" front bar with the same rear bar.

I have a feeling that the solid proof will eventually be for sale.

                Hi Bill,

I've had my '66 390hp since '88. When I bought her at the Dallas convention center she was molested a bit with fender flares, roll bar, etc. Thank god no six tail lights! All her #s matched but the glovebox was empty. Kinda your situation. No tank sticker in '66 when she went down the line. No papers anywhere. How can you authenticate the car?

The only big difference between our research is your original block is gone. OK, if you're REALLY thinking of purchasing this car...factor that into the price and know you probably won't be able to PROVE the car's originality without prior ownership research, meetings, photos, or historic papers if you're lucky. I've done all that and had some success. I KNOW my car's original, but will probably never be able to prove it without a shadow of a doubt. But that doesn't matter to me.

You'd mentioned that you've checked the rear sway bar and Posi yoke straps and bolts. What about the rear end #s? And the transmission? Is the ID tag still there? Could tell you if it's a M-21 without checking the spline. Does the car have TI or points? F-41 HD suspension? Could lead to evidence of higher horses.

Before I go, I'm curious why you believe its a 390hp vs. 400hp or even 435hp? Is it the carb/intake/air filter set up? Or is it the tach redline? What about the heads? Just wondering. I'm crazy about my Vettes and I'll never think less of my '66 no matter what anyone thinks of her origins. Good luck with that '67 if that's your avenue.

                Mike
