Hi Jim,
I have read your steering papers to the point of memorization, but I'm having a problem that doesn't appear to be covered I'm hoping you can help me with. The offender is a 69 tilt telescopic column.
I have the left instrument panel out of the car so I can see the column easily. I have followed your instructions to the letter. I have everything loose including the automatic transmission cable to the arm on the lower end of the column shaft. The column is ready so slide out, but I can not get the arm to rotate to the vertical so that it will slide thru the slot in the firewall. I have tried the key in every position possible, but it feels like whatever is attached to the arm is hitting something internally in the column and will not let it rotate straight up. The arm will rotate inboard and down but stops about 20-30 deg from vertical.
I hope you have some ideas and I really appreciate your help!
