1967 Brake Differential Switch to MC Lines - Color Coded ?

    Search negative.

The new lines have fittings that are blue and orange. Is this typical? I see no color traces on the lines which came off. Obviously someone painted them black long ago.

p.s. The switch was not operational but I corrected. 2 problems.....the contact was shorted to ground due to corrosion at the screw head, cleaning fixed that. There is a plastic insulator so you cannot heat it. The brass plunger was stuck also. Soaking the area with solvent loosened it, and with 2 small drifts through each end pushing back and forth I was able to get it moving. Cleaned the cavity and it's now fully functional.

I have also run into brake line fittings on the two "S" shape lines at the master cylinder that were green and red.

Age generally takes it's toll but the threads inside still show color dye. I can't say if colors were standard to aid assembly line workers or not but would sound reasonable since the thread size are different front to rear.

      .
In the mid 70's when these lines were still available from GM, I ordered several. The fittings were definitely different colors to ID front/rear but I only vaguely remember that one color was orange. I don't remember the other color. I might still have a set here somewhere.

Brake fitting tubing nuts have been color-coded for as long as I can remember. Some sort of a dye is used to accomplish this and that dye is not necessarily "long-lived". The reason for the color coding is so that different tubing nuts can be easily distinguished. It's not so easy with the naked eye since there are quite a few different "permutations" for these nuts. For any given thread size, there may be 2 or 3 different "other sizing parameters".

Thanks guys......The description of the part said they were color coded as original but I wanted to hear it from experience. I never knew that. It does appear to be some kind of ink, and I was thinking of wiping it off with some solvent. Glad I didn't. Again thanks.

ps Finished bleeding the brakes last night. The rebuilt pressure switch is no longer shorted and seems to be fine.

I can't speak for 67, but I recall when I was preparing my 69 for Flight Judging, the JG called out for colored "nuts" on the lines at the MC.

I "restored" mine with Magic Markers.
