None of the pictures of 3x2 air cleaners have this tube coming out the bottom on the right side. What is it for? Thanks

Re: Air cleaner, what is this tube for?
I'll jump in. Test me you guys. I've been learning a lot about 427/435's lately...., well on a 67 that is. However my C3 knowledge is marginal. Your icon is 68-69.
By the appearance of the pipes coming from the exhaust manifold, I think it's for K19 A.I.R? Either that or for the flame arrestor? Is that a Winters aluminum head? yes.....A L71 with the L89 add-on?

Here's the sheet from the AIM....Air Injection Reactor Equipment......of which I really know not much about other than in the books.

edit....actually, I'm familiar with A.I.R. in 70's Jags. They used the GM pump. I rebuilt one a few(10) years ago.Attached Files- Top

Re: Air cleaner, what is this tube for?
Mike
Starting in 68 A.I.R systems had the air filter (centrifugal fan) on the pump. In 66 and 67 the A.I.R pump took it's clean air from the air filter base and a hose connected the base to the pump. This is what you are seeing.

Re: Air cleaner, what is this tube for?
Are you certain? I don't see this in any 63-67 catalogs I have on hand either. In the 1969 Stingray Guidebook it talks about there being two BB pumps one with a vent on top (but these are described as being for L88/ZL1.

Mike
The 66 and 67 A.I.R systems are very different from the later ones.
In 67 since the A.I.R system was only required on cars sold in California and an option everywhere else, it is pretty rare. Since there is very small market for such parts, little if any of it is being reproduced and therefore sold through the catalogs.
Attached is a picture of a 67 tri-power with A.I.R and a 68 to compare.

Re: Air cleaner, what is this tube for?
As others have mentioned, you have an air cleaner base for a 1967 L-68 or L-71 with K-19. The correct base for 1968-69 L-68 or L-71 would not have the tube.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Thanks everyone. Hopefully I can find a way to trade this one for the correct one. Another mystery solved!
