Hi Guys, I purchased my '71 LT-1 in early 2004 and it came totally undocumented. After checking what I could at that time, I had no doubt it was exactly what it was advertised as and I bought it.
A couple of years later, the tank was dropped and the tank sticker was partially intact, at least enough to read it was equipped with a 350-330hp Turbo-Fire V8. I was now reassured that at least the tank and sticker was from an LT-1, but that's all I had until the NCRS had available the shipping data report and was lucky to find out my car was originally sold by a small dealer in North Carolina that is still in business today.
What makes this lucky is that North Carolina will for a small fee provide title searches. I filled out the form along with a $10 cheque and I received copies of all the NC title holders as well as the MSO.
I was able to contact the widow of the original owner and spoke for a while she reminisced about the good times she and her late husband had with the car. I mailed her a self addressed stamped envelope and she promised to send me some original photographs of the car.
The second owner was just as easy to locate. We spoke at lengths about how well he cared for the car from the time it came out of warranty as he was a mechanic and was a good friend of the original owner. He basically owned the car from 1980 to 1990 when it was sold at auction to a Doctor in Michigan.
I found and spoke to the fine Doctor recently and was blown away when he told me he still had the protecto plate and the original window sticker that he had laminated. He was willing to give it all to me, but was out a few hundred dollars after buying the original carb off the second owner. I was more than happy to oblige and just today, I received the long awaited documentation.
I went from almost zero in the fall, to having a full documented car, all thanks goes out to the NCRS.
I can't thank those involved in providing the shipping report enough, it's really made my holiday season one that I will never forget.
Thanks to all, and happy holidays!!!

P.S. A special thanks to Paul Jordan for all his help. Paul took time out of his busy schedule and drove to the selling dealer in attempts to locate the original bill of sale. Paul is a great guy and a credit to the NCRS. Thanks Paul!!!!
