Had a flat in my Vette today and had to get it towed. The tow truck driver had a great story. Yesterday he was at the local Chevy dealer. A 75 year old man just had his brand new 2011 ZR-1 delivered from Bowling Green (built for him with lots of extras). He picked up the car at 2:30. At 9:30 the same day (7 hours later), the same tow truck driver had a call to a wreck on the Interstate. Guess who? The 75 year old guy was blasting down the highway passing everyone like a blur. He ran over a piece of wood with nails in it, blew out both rear tires, and rolled it several times. Obviously there was fiberglass and carbon fiber everywhere, to the point where the tow truck driver had trouble getting the remainder of the car up on the flatbed. Then he towed it back to the same Chevy dealer. No one at the dealer had bet that he would wreck it that soon, but the new ZR-1 with 20 miles on it was totalled. Guess the 75 year old guy just didn't realize its power. Oh, and he was fine, despite the car being a vert. He is lucky he didn't drive his Vette and die at the same time. Wonder if the dealer will be selling ZR-1s to older guys again or just that the betting will be shorter term...

Re: "He wanted to drive a Corvette before he died"
Yes, there are no factory ZR-1s, now that I think about it. But there was no top left when the tow truck driver arrived. That's one way to make a ZR-1 vert...or else the driver was mixed up with a Z06...- Top

Wow. That's why you get a certificate for a free driving school with a new ZR1. If you've never driven anything like that, it is quite a shock.Tom Hendricks

Hate to see a new ZR1 or any Corvette wiped out, for that matter, but I'm glad the driver was OK.

We got a two-fer to go with yesterday’s story of a C6 Corvette crashing into an Emmy-award winning puppeteer’s home. This accident features a black 2007 Corvette driven by 75-year-old Carl Sloan of Morgan Hill, CA. Sloan and 58 year old Teenie Denise were cruising the parking lot of a local Wal-Mart when the car suddenly accelerated and crashed into the front of the store. The cause of the accident may have been due to a medical condition. Both went to the hospital and will be okay. The Corvette? Not so much…Last edited by Clem Z.; December 23, 2010, 10:48 AM.- Top

Re: "He wanted to drive a Corvette before he died"
With blowouts, there's nothing you can do to "control" what's happening...it's better to simply lift the accelerator, and use all your strength to hold the wheel straight until your speed is reduced enough to safely pull off the road. Reactionary twitching is bad, really bad.- Top
