    1965 Corvette Carter AFB 3721SA F4

My 1965 Corvette Coupe has the following dates: 327/300hp 4speed

Body built on August 27, 1964 and the Carter AFB Carberator has the 3721SA F4 date code. The F 4 corresponds to a June 1964 build date. This would make sense as it was made 2 moths prior to the build date of the car as it was made in 1964 for the 1965 model run.
The code as per Corvette Black Book verifies that it is a 1964 Carter code, but the 1965 model had the 3721SB code and not the SA code that I have. My question is, how can it have the SB code as stated in the Black Book if in my 65 Coupe was built in August of 1964 and makes sense that it is a 1964 carberator and did they use some 1964 Carberators before restamping in '65? My other dates are correct as listed below:

    Body A27 ___________August 27, 1964
    Transmission P08 08 __August 8th
    Block- G 13 4 _______July 13th
    Engine F 08 HF ______June 8th
    Carberator F4 _______June 4th

    Dean,

The answer is simple, all the existing stock is used before the change to the SB model. It's quite possible the SA was used well into the 65 model year, maybe others will respond with approx change over info.

If your engine is a June build then it makes sense the carburetor is also a June dated part, the F4 indicates June 1964 not June 4, 1964.

Also, double check your engine cast date because the G is probably a E indicating May casting.

Carbs were installed at St Louis, so are somewhat independent of engine build date, however on an engineering change SA-SB for example the typical disposition of existing stock would have been "USE" which makes it very likely that an early build '65 could have the SA revision carb.
