Should all the numbers in the serial number stamped on the engine pad of a 1989 corvette match those of the serial number of the car? or is there a limited number of digits that may be diferent? For example only the last 7 match? I have engine stamp 1K511xxxx while serial number last 9 digits is 2K511xxxx (al the x's are matching numbers)

Re: engine vs title VIN
Manuel:
That 2 in your actual VIN is a check digit and will vary from car to car. The K designates the 89 model year. I am not an expert in 89 stamping configuration, but I bet when the guys who know chime in, you will find your number combos are correct and normal.Tom Hendricks

Re: engine vs title VIN
Not sure how they stamped the C4s, but the engine stamp is usually a VIN derivitive, not a complete VIN. The derivitive commonly shows the assembly plant code, a character to denote Corvette, a character for the model year, and the consecutive unit number.
