    C6 ZO6 question

Not exactly in the years covered by this forum, but maybe one of you can help. My 07 ZO6 with 16K mikes displayed "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" message as I was turning into my driveway after a 20 minute highway drive today.

Shut it down and then restarted and the message went away. I bought this car new at a dealer I liked, but he got his dealership taken away. I really don't trust any of the dealers around here with this car. I have done all the routine service at a friend's service station, but I get the feeling this is going to be beyond both of us.

So, the question is...How do you "service active handling" or what does it really mean?

    Re: C6 ZO6 question

my 01 will do it all the time, it will warm up and it will be alright. pull the codes from the dash i'm sure its probably nothing.

Go on the corvette forum website, they have a section for every year. do a search I'm sure you will find tons of treads on it.

Check to see if you are in this VIN range. here's a bulletin. The photos may not reproduce in this post. Your dealer should be able to look this up for you. If you would like to PM me your VIN, I'd gladly run the report to see if your car is involved.

#10118: Product Safety - Service Active Handling System Message in Driver Information Center - (Apr 23, 2010)

Subject:10118 - "Service Active Handling System" Message in Driver Information Center

      Models:2005-2006 Chevrolet Corvette
Equipped with Tilt and Telescoping Steering Column (N37)

*****Due to part availability, customers involved in this recall will be notified in phases.*****
      <A href="#ss1-2451210">Condition

General Motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2005 and 2006 model year Chevrolet Corvette vehicles equipped with a tilt and telescoping steering column (N37). In rare cases, repeated movement of the steering column may cause a signal interruption within the column. If this occurs, the message, "Service Active Handling System" will appear in the Driver Information Center, and one or more of the brakes may apply, possibly causing the vehicle to pull to the right or left. If the driver does not respond to the change in vehicle movement, a crash could occur.
      <A href="#ss2-2451210">Correction

Dealers are to inspect the wire connection in the steering column, and if necessary, install an additional clip to secure the wire connection.
      <A href="#ss3-2451210">Vehicles Involved

Involved are certain 2005 and 2006 model year Chevrolet Corvette vehicles equipped with a tilt and telescoping steering column (N37), and built within these VIN breakpoints:
      Year
      Division
      Model

      Through

      2006
      Chevrolet
      Corvette
      65100001
      65115536
Important: Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using GMVIS (dealers using WINS) or the Investigate Vehicle History link (dealers using GWM). Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.
For dealers with involved vehicles, a listing with involved vehicles containing the complete vehicle identification number, customer name, and address information has been prepared and will be provided to US and Canadian dealers through the GM GlobalConnect Recall Reports, or sent directly to export dealers. Dealers will not have a report available if they have no involved vehicles currently assigned.
The listing may contain customer names and addresses obtained from Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any purpose other than follow-up necessary to complete this recall is a violation of law in several states/provinces/countries. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this report to the follow-up necessary to complete this recall.
      <A href="#ss4-2451210">Parts Information

Parts required to complete this recall are to be obtained from General Motors Customer Care and Aftersales (GMCC&A). Please refer to your "involved vehicles listing" before ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency situation, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.

      <A href="#ss5-2451210">Service Procedure
      1. <LI type=1>Remove the driver's side closeout (insulator) panel. <LI type=1>Locate the Steering Wheel Position Sensor (SWPS) connector that connects to the steering angle sensor, located on the lower center of the steering column.
      1. Note: Determine if the (SWPS) connector has a clip installed into the connector, or if tape and a band tie was used to prevent movement of the terminals.
If the SWPS connector has the clip or tape and band tie repair, install the driver's side closeout (insulator) panel. No further action is required.
If the SWPS connector does NOT have the clip or tape and band tie repair, proceed to Step 3.

<LI type=1>Install the new clip into the connector. This clip will act as a terminal positive assurance (TPA) and prevent any movement of the terminals. <LI type=1>Reinstall the closeout panel. <LI type=1>Clear the DTC with a scan tool and road test the vehicle.
      2. If DTC C0710 resets during the road test, refer to DTC C0710 in SI.

        Re: C6 ZO6 question

        Thanks John

The C6 does not let you get codes on the DIC like the C5 does, but I did turn up a service bulletin about a wire bundle that gets flexed too much when the steering column is adjusted fore and aft. Since I have the memory function on, every time I get in and out of the car, the column moves. I am going to check that out. It involves cutting a cable tie and repositioning the bundle.

Mine is an 07 built late in the year 07, but I guess that's a good place to start looking.

              <A href="#ss1-2032653">ConditionCause

The most likely cause of a DTC C0710 on a vehicle equipped with telescoping/tilt steering wheel is high resistance in SWPS connector C202. Fretting terminal corrosion may be present in the SWPS connector due to the telescoping motion of the steering column. When the steering column is telescoped in and out, the female terminals within the SWPS connector may move on the male terminals of the SWPS. This movement between the terminals may cause a high resistance condition in the SWPS connector.

You should have gotten a factory recall notice, but it might have fallen through cracks with the dealership being closed.

As soon as you have ANY work done at another dealership (such that they know what dealer is nearest the VIN), they'll start sending that recall notice, and they don't stop if you ignore them. Mine has not shown the message, and like you, I really hate to have hackers messing with my car.

No...the problem won't go away, and it's potentially life-threatening. The problem is when you have harness shorts leading to the system thinking it's in a skid, and it begins braking different wheels without warning. Early incidents have been covered on CF.
