Seat Belts

My recently purchased L79 4-speed convertible does not have seat belts. I was told that 66 was the last year that seat belts were not required, but the Black Book does not list them as an option. Were they dealer-installed? Regardless, should I be able to install period-correct belts without too much trouble? What about the 'keeper plate'? Is it required for authenticity? Can it be retro-fitted? Where does one find all this stuff?

So many questions! So little knowledge!

Hi Marlin !!

Your car would have had seat belts factory installed. Give Charlie Santorelli a call. He is the seatbelt expert. He is also a member. He did the belts in my 63. Call him during the week and in the daytime at 908-719-2354. I believe he is in NJ.

Marlin - Be sure to check the 66 Judging Manual for the appropriate seat belt configuration for your 66, as there was a change in the style of the seat belts used during the Production year. Pete

Be careful of your information source(s). Seat belts became a standard feature on Corvette in the 1958 model year!
