    Re: 64 vert shutdown issues

Well after sitting down and studying the wiring diagram I have finally found the cause. Its in the ignition switch matter af fact its in all three ignition switches. I can now make it happen eveytime I shut off the car if I want. If I shut the car off while its running and switch it to the lock position the starter bendix will snap. I can make it hit hard or just a small tap depending on how fast I go from running to lock. If I go from running to off and pause then go to lock it will not happen. I put a meter to every switch I have between s terminal and acc, and sure enough there is a momentary contact when switching from off to lock. The slower I turn switch the longer the contact last. Now my question is any other better source for ignition switches than made in mexico. Ed

I suggest you contact Pete Lindhal and get a good switch.
You can look him up in the members list. He will solve your problem.

        Re: 64 vert shutdown issues

I have been following this thread with interest as it was like de-je-vu for me. Only, mine is a 63 and this same phenomenon occurred in August 1963. My buddy and I had driven the car from Wisconsin to New Mexico without incident. Then, a few days after we arrived, every time we shut the engine down it would start right back up again. The only way we could stop it from starting and running again was to pull the positive battery cable. It was scary. Like the car had a mind of it's own. Of course, being as how the car was still new and under warranty, we took it into the nearest Chevy dealer in Las Cruces for service so I don't know exactly what they found wrong other than they did change out the starter and said that it had a short in it. Who knows, maybe they changed the ignition switch too. I don't recall that we got an itemized parts/labor list from them. Leastwise, it's not in my records.
