    1972 LT-1 weight

Anyone happen to know the weight of a 72 LT-1 compared to the base 72? Just wondering if the LT-1 was any lighter.
    Thanks in advance.

I am not sure the 72 base did not have the air injection system like the 70 base Corvette. It it did not have it, the air injection in the 72 LT-1 would be added weight.

You might have to define "base."

The “no option” 1972 engine would have no AIR pump, unless destined for California. Additionally since no option would = 4-speed and no C-60 the radiator would be aluminum to also lighten the car.

Add either M40 or C60 and you got the copper brass radiator which would put the weight back to the LT1, but the addition of AC and/or M40 would further increase the weight -- unless you are comparing it to an LT-1 with AC. Oh what a tangled web we weave!

If you go to the GM Heritage center Web site, you can download all the 1972 Corvette data. The AMA specs include base vehicle shipping weights (full fluids except gasoline, which was three gallons from the plant).

The AMA specs usually include the net weight gain or loss from options, but I'm not sure if all years are complete.

For whatever model years you are interested in, there's a wealth of data in the download files.

            Ken,

According to the MSO for my '71 LT-1, the shipping weight is 3251 lbs

              Re: 1972 LT-1 weight

OK thanks for the information guys.
According to GM's 1972 Corvette specification and restoration guide.
The LT-1 engine added 25 Lbs.
So in conclusion a LT-1 corvette should weigh 25 Lbs more than a comparably equipped Base engine vehicle.

Wonder where the extra 25# comes form. Most of the componets for the engine were the same, except for the intake manifold. An I would have thought that the intake on the Lt-1 would be lots of pounds less with the aluminum intake. Other than that I would have thought that the rest of the differences would be very close in wt. The smog system had that much wt?

                  .
I think, if you add all the little things together, 25# would be about right.

in 72 they added the weight to the blue tag inside the drivers door.

Mike, I think thats the GVWR, gross vehicle wieght rating, which includes passengers (I think).
For what its worth my 72 LT-1 with p/w, p/b,p/s,tilt-tele,am/fm stereo, has a GVWR of 3910 lbs (Front-1810 and Rear-2100)

                      Regards
