C2 1967 Hard Top Hardtop Front Header Weatherstrip Installation

For a 67 HT.....I have CRC weatherstrip and I'm confused about the front outside corners of the outer front header. AIM shows no cross-section detail. The ends on this repro piece are marked LH & RH.

When I set the LH end on the LH corner, the profile of the weatherstrip must be bent "backwards" before entering in the clips. If I reverse it, and go against the CRC ID marks, it looks right, but I'm unsure. I looked a t a hardtop today at a buddy's house but we're not sure the header was replaced before or not. It looked like my "reversed" profile.

Note I am experimenting before I install the clips with the SS header trim out. I know they must go in before the SS is screwed down.

Please look at the pictures and tell me what is typical. 1st 2 photos are LH to LH with the CRC LH facing up. The 2nd 2 photos are the CRC RH facing down, positioned on the LH corner.

    I'm losing hair.....please help!

I was hoping you were at the computer tonight Harry. Awesome prints thanks.

So does it look like my CRC piece is marked wrong? (1st 2 photos)

I went over Chuck's today to take some shots of his 65 top, but we weren't sure if the header w/s was replaced. The ends are a hard, and they appear be original and are installed as if my CRC RH end would have to go on the LH side. The CRC repro is very soft closed cell foam. His are the red top's last 2 pictures below......the LH then RH corners.

Could it be LH/RH based upon when the top is mounted to the car and you are sitting "under it"?

Kirk, Yes that's the way I've shown it. I know it's confusing to those not seeing my issue up close. My pictures are of the top upside down, but when you face the front, your left hand is the left side of the top, ie drivers' side.

LH is always drivers' side(for LHD American cars) and that's what I've referenced all of my info to. If I get some time I'll call CRC and see what they say. I just think they marked the ends incorrectly.

I'm glad Harry posted that. I just ordered the front weatherstripping and wasn't sure how it installed.

I'll take 'em. You can send them to me through this site or where the wild bunch hang out. I can't wait to get it put on. Them I'm sure I'll be like everyone else and never use it again.

                  Rich, Bryan,

Here's shots of the front weatherstrip from my 67 hardtop which I just stripped. I took the shots so I would get the new back in the right places.

                  Hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing the photos Jerry. I think I see the profile of the corners.

Did you remove the outer front header w/s yet? If not could you take a few more of each corner, from the outside and the inside angles. Notice the special split in the corner ends, and which way it faces.

This top I have was missing all w/s when I got it, but only had the 13 clips and a few pieces of rubber under them.

Rich, question - is the CRC replacement weatherstrip hollow in the center? The softtop bow weatherstrip is hollow in the center. Overtime the softtop bow weatherstrip will collapse. A foam cord like a door seal pulled through the opening will help keep the softtop weatherstrip seal against the windshield. Gary....

I used to use it every winter while it sat in the garage during its hibernation. I stopped putting it on about 20 years ago. I did put it on about 3 years ago and went for a drive in the winter of 07. Had to, I moved and that was the easiest way of transporting it.

Yes it's hollow, but sealed where the foam ends are molded on in the manufacturing process. Good idea, but unless it is cut open to run a cord through it cannot be added. There are 2 front header w/s's. This one I'm dealing with, then a second closed cell foam that mounts just in front of the metal header frame with plastic push-pins, as in Jerry's photos.

                            Rich,

I have my hardtop completely stripped down now ready to repaint the top.
Presently experimenting with getting just the right Marina Blue. Waiting on a shop to make me samples of both lacquer, and a urethane-clear coat to decide.

Take a look at this post and the two previous posts linked in the posts:

But here's a few more photos of the corners before I started:

I think these clearly show the corners and how the outer W/S is tucked inward.
