    Replacing carpet

I have a 65 coupe in Nassau blue with the bright blue and white interior.
I need to replace the carpet any recomendations on
who makes the most correct carpet? Also Al Knoch offers
insulation to keep cabin noise and heat down, would that affect
    judging and does it work?
    Thanks,
    Karl

    Karl,
Al Knock is hard to beat, has been around a long time, & stands behind what they sell. I would check into modern insulation, I think there was discussion here recently (try a search). Good luck, Don H.

      Karl,

I recently installed the AK carpet and pad in my 67 Coupe. The pad is very close in thickness to the original pad I removed from the car. I also installed a sound/heat barrier, "Dynamat", on the fiberglas. It's a self stick aluminum-backed material that is no more than 1/16" thick. Once installed with a roller, it may be a bit less than a 1/16". I didn't have any clearance issues with the final product and the AK carpet looks good, it's as close to original as you can get. I researched the archives and found several threads about AK as well as using the deadener material, some with pics of the results. If you use the Dynamat, don't forget to install in under the headliner. It's reported to have a significant effect on reducing heat gain. I bought mine on Amazon. We're still working on the chassis and engine compartment so I can't comment yet on the performance of the Dynamat. Good Luck.

      Pete

        Re: Replacing carpet

On judging impact, the use of non-original carpet components (like Dynomat) can affect the car's score to the extent they're visible. Expect judges to 'lift' carpet where it's intentionally loose (at the 'flaps' covering the front seat rails, Etc.) and if they see a 'foreign' material, take an appropriate originality deduction...
