Master cylinder gasket or not? (62)

I just took out and cleaned up the original MC and my question is this. What is between the MC and firewall when you mount it? The vendors sell a triangular gasket, but the AIM in Sect-5 Sheet 6.00 indicates a compound of some sort. If so, What color? Could you just kneed up a piece of "dum-dum" or plumbers putty? I believe all it does is seal the two surfaces.

John,
No gasket, just a little non hardening sealer as called out in the AIM.
Probably gray or black, but not visable anyway.

Used a little black "dum-dum". Looks like new now.
