    74 vette flashers

The judging manual refers to the assembly manual for the part numbers for the 2 flashers that are used for the turn signals and the 4 way flashers. Can anyone help with the Tung Sol numbers like #323 or #224 as to what are the correct parts?

Bruce - Both the Tung-Sol 323 and 224 are fixed load flashers and would have been used in the turn signal systems. The T-S 323 would have been used in a 3-lamp (1-fronts & 2-rear lamps) turn signal circuit and the T-S 224 would have been used in a 2-lamp (1-front lamp & 1-rear lamp) turn signal circuit. Neither of these flasher would have been used originally in the hazard warning system. Flashers like the T-s 552, Signal-Stat 175, or Ideal 536 that are variable load flashers would have been in the hazard warning systems. Pete

Turn signal flashers are always an interesting issue. The GM PN's mean little to judges since the number appears nowhere on the part. Most were purchased parts sourced from outside suppliers and for some reason, the PN's seem to have been issued/maintained by Oldsmoble with a unique PN for each qualified supplier/model...

The correct TS part would NOT be a #323 since that flasher was specifically aimed at handling 3-lamp, #1057 load applications. Your car blinks TWO lamps loads (one front/the other rear) with the turn signal.

Two parts that I believe were correct/original from the factory from that era are the Tung Sol 224 and Littlefuse 224. Both DOT qualified in blue plastic, cylindrical cans.

The emergency flasher is a similar situation with a plurality of vendors qualified for the part. I'm pretty sure one is the Tung Sol 552 and another is Ideal's 536 flasher.

Both of these units are lamp-load independent in terms of blink rate and that's what you want in an emergency flasher circuit. That's because you blink both sides of the car at once, so you're driving 4, 6 or more lamp loads (might have a trailer attached to the car...) and you want the blink rate to be constant regardless of the number of lamps you drive.
