Re: 68 convertable Chart cover

I've never seen a 68 with the driver side cover.
The covers did not go into production at the same time as the braces. My April built car has the braces but no covers.
I'm not even sure the passenger side cover made it into production on all 68s. I have seen several very late build cars that did not have them.

Re: 68 convertable Chart cover
My late May '68 convertible driver is a pretty original car (I've had it over 20 years). Anyway, about 15 years ago, I had a chance to buy the passenger side cover for $15.00. It was supposed to be original and it sure looked like it was. When I got it home, it was obvious it was for the passenger side rather than the driver side, but there was no way I could see to make it fit. It's sitting in a box of '68 parts in my shop as we speak. (BTW, this is an original A/C car.)- Top

Re: 68 convertable Chart cover
I also have an old passenger side cover with the # 9750551 and it’s plastic with a vinyl covering. It’s not like the new repos. that are just a hard molded plastic. Never saw a left one though, as depicted in the AIM for 68s. They may have discontinued them for 69 and on???? On the relationship thing, isn't there a web site where you can find out that kind of thing, like who's your daddy . com?Last edited by Dale C.; December 4, 2010, 10:22 PM.- Top

I doubt very much that your March car should have either cover. I'm 100% positive mine never did.
Does your car have the under dash brace rods shown on 68 AIM, 1-A6.6?
These braces were added mid production of 68. I read some where it was early April. The covers in question were added to cover these braces. If your car doesn't have the braces it definitely doesn't need the covers.
My mid April car has the braces but not the covers. They came even later in production. Exactly when I don't know. I've seen original cars with June build dates that did not have the covers, so they were either used sporadically in production or only very very late.
My car has the configuration of chart covers shown on 68 AIM, 1-E.2. You'll note the front covers clips to the transmission console. They don't have any provision for mounting the side wing covers in question. The latter style are held to the transmission console by a screw and have bosses on the back side to mount the side wings.

That all makes sense. I don't have the braces which was correct for my car (it was not set up for the braces) so the covers were not needed. I do think the braces were after my 13417 car. So like you said they tried them out and only used them for a short time. I have the right side and I am almost finished making a left one. Can stop the process now I guess.
