New Restorer CD - Holy Cow

Just got the new Restorer CD (67 version), or is it a DVD. Fantastic

Copied it to my hard disc, then put a shortcut to the pdf file on my desktop.

It is really amazing that you get articles related to your year Corvette and others dating from 2010 to 1982, clear as a bell as if you had the paper issue. This is amazing to me as I had the old CD, where you couldn't make heads or tails out of the photos on it.

Somebody did an excellent job on these new CD's or DVD's, and ought to be recognized for the work.

I'm thinking of buying the whole set now. A great archiving of important information for anyone restoring a car. I just can't believe it, 28 years of info on one CD. I'd recommend it to any do-it-yourself restorer.

On the search function, I typed in my last name, and came up with 6 articles. Not really bragging, but just amazed at the NCRS work here.

    Having fun,

That's great but you would think they would give those that just bought the old DVD for $150 a little more than a $20 discount.

I'm with you Jim. This is the version we should have received the first time. What happens when they revise it again?

The pictures on the original version sucked. If I was interested in an article, I would have to dig out that issue to see decent pictures. It seems to me that generating money is way more important than service to the actual dues paying members ie: the $40 charge for dealer info. If this DVD is any indication, they'll come out with more order info. for another $40, maybe a $1 discount for those that have already ordered. This really is B.S.

            Hi Jerry,

I just received mine last week, and I very much agree with you. I had the old CD, and I was glad to have it, but it was difficult to use. The new one is much improved, with everything formatted as original, at least compared to the original hard copies I have.

If you upgrade to the whole set, it should have everything from 1974 to somewhere near the present, about 36 years' worth

If you copy the entire DVD to your hard drive, it will help if you have a lot of RAM, and a solid state hard drive doesn't hurt. It shows as a 1.66GB file on my system.

John, I think you will be very happy with it. It has information you need. It has lots of information you could not even know you needed, until you read it

Come on guys, technical obsolence is a reality. How much 'credit' did Microsoft give you for your XP purchase on a VISTA upgrade, or for your VISTA software on a Win7 upgrade?

                  Jack,

Completely agree. The new CD's in pdf format are something else. The old format for photos was completely useless.

Now you have exact copies of the articles as published.

For $50 you get a true archive. I didn't even think about claiming a $10 credit for the old one.

Just breaking in a new high end laptop. So I know what you are saying.
It is just the cost of advancing technology.

                    Jerry,

Tip on how to deal with the old Restorer CD photos. Pull the photo up and use a "snag it" function. Snag It function allows capture of a selected area displayed on the screen. The function is integrated in Vista and Windows 7. There are also "add on" programs for XP. I use the program by Tech Smith. Then save as jpg file and print photo. This works good.

My laptop came with Vista and I got a free upgrade to Win. 7 when it came out 6 months later. OS upgrades are usually discounted 50% vs a new purchase.
